Government BodiesWho We Are
Northwood Japan is an academic liaison initiative dedicated to connecting Indonesian universities with Japanese higher education institutions — going far beyond language translation alone.
We support communication, coordination, and institutional understanding, navigating the cultural and structural nuances that make cross-border academic collaboration genuinely effective.
Our work is grounded in long-term relationship building, not transactional consulting.

How We Work
We follow a structured engagement model designed around how Japanese institutions actually make decisions — methodical, relationship-driven, and built on mutual trust.
We learn your institution's goals, timeline, and prior experience with Japanese academia. No assumptions — just listening.
We identify the right Japanese partners based on academic profile, location, scale, and institutional culture.
We manage communication, prepare documentation, and guide both sides through negotiations and formal agreements.
After agreements are signed, we remain available for program coordination and relationship maintenance as the partnership matures.
What We Do
Structured support across the full spectrum of institutional collaboration — from first contact to sustained partnership.
Structured communication and relationship-building between Indonesian and Japanese institutions, tailored to each institution's culture and pace.
End-to-end support for joint programs, short courses, faculty exchanges, and collaborative research initiatives.
Academic documents, institutional proposals, and meticulous Japanese-language review — precise, contextually aware, and ready for official use.
Our Work
An Indonesian technical university sought to launch a two-week intensive with a Japanese counterpart. We coordinated faculty schedules, translated all academic materials, and navigated visa documentation — delivering a signed agreement in under five months.
Two departments had prior informal contact but lacked a formal framework. Northwood Japan structured the MOU process, advised on JSPS grant eligibility, and served as the communication bridge across a three-year research cycle.
A faculty preparing for accreditation needed all documents rendered accurately into Japanese. We provided expert review and translation ensuring terminology aligned with MEXT standards and Japanese academic conventions.
A mid-sized Indonesian university had no prior formal Japan engagement. We conducted a landscape assessment, identified four suitable partner candidates, and delivered a phased outreach roadmap executed over 18 months.
